It may feel like you're on the ocean, but it's really an Inland Sea. Chequamegon Bay encompasses Ashland, Washburn and Bayfield. It has seen water craft of all shapes and sizes since the area was first discovered by French fur traders, Médard des Groseilliers and Pierre-Esprit Radisson around 1658.
