Founded in 1883, the city was named for Cadwallader C. Washburn, Republican governor of Wisconsin from 1872 until 1874. The island shown can be found just off shore from Memorial Park & Campground. You can swim or paddle to it in the summer or walk to it in the winter when ice conditions are right.
